Exploring Education with Creative Solutions

Brand, Product, and Design // Design Concept

Design Goals

This concept brief explores the lack of innovation within the education space. By utilising game based design is it possible to transfer knowledge. The game must be focused on engaging with Students of 12 years and above. Highlighting the building of critical thinking skills with knowledge retention. Taking similar ideas from games like ‘Settlers of Catan’, ‘Civilisation’, and ‘Monopoly’. This will result in the production of a fully realised board game including;

  • Brand identity and logotype.

  • Board game and working components.

  • User guide.

  • Storage box.

Design Strategy

As the sole designer on the project, my role was multifaceted.
I focused on translating historical information into game mechanics, this resulted in a unique game mechanic where the player receives story chapters throughout the game on cards. Mixed with Astrological motifs and stained glass design it creates a connection with Medieval England.

Outcome

Using ‘Tabletop Simulator’ I was able to easily playtest and render
a working visual of the finished game. This provided clear metrics on
User engagement and interest in the game design. The educational aspect is brought through and doesn’t diminish from the gameplay.
With additional user playtesting it can be expanded into physical media.
